Session I was a success!! It was also very busy on the last day, so apologies for the delay in updates. Students performed fabulously at their closing concert and proudly showed off their playing skills for their parents and other family members. Check-out went quickly and smoothy and students went home happy campers!
Tuesday morning the staff had a few hours to relax, reorganize, and even enjoy a yoga class before preparations for Session II began. Once everything was ready to go, we began checking in new campers. Check-in went really quickly, with the bulk of people coming through in the first 30 minutes. Campers got settled, went to their first rehearsal, and had their first meal at camp. Because we have more returning campers at this session meal time songs had a lot more participants.
Now that we are on Day 2 of Session II, campers have been placed in rote groups, been to two rehearsals, sectionals, and they are already sounding FANTASTIC!! It will be great to see what they sound like at the final performance. The Sarah Grindley Symphony could perform one of their pieces tomorrow, imagine how its going to sound on Saturday.
We had our first round of "Ga-Ga" Ball today during morning recreation and the kids (and counselors) had a blast! Additionally, the archery field, obstacle course and wild wonders adventure tour were well attended, but the most active area was definitely the lakefront. Given the 95-degree heat we had today, the lake was a much needed break from the hot sun.
After lasagna dinner another rehearsal we had a very fun dance party to close the night. We danced a Virginia reel, Cotton Eyed Joe, and the Shower Dance before our evening snack and lights out. Tomorrow is another full day of rehearsals and fun and we're excited for another great day of music making.
